New York Fashion Week, one of the biggest fashion shows  in the world happened this week and included a grand total of 27 plus size models in their show, including Ashley Graham, arguably the most famous plus size model in the world right now. These models walked for designers and brands such as Michael Kors, Christian Siriano, J. Crew and Who What Wear. Other upcoming models like Denise Bidot and Bree Kish walked for these designers.

Fashion Designer Michael Kors selected Ashley Graham to walk for him this year, the first time he’s ever had a plus size model on the runway. He told the Huffington Post this:

“The show was about strength and sensuality, and also about the diversity that we see here in New York that has inspired me my whole life… There were models in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, models who are petite, tall, and curvy, models who are tomboys and others who are bombshells. My whole career, I’ve dressed a huge variety of people, because my job is to make everyone look great and feel more confident.”

Graham later posted on Instagram a picture of herself at the fashion show, expressing her gratitude for Michael Kors, writing “MICHAEL MICHAEL MICHAEL!!! Thank you for the opportunity and showing that beauty comes in many different forms!!”

In other news, Neiman Marcus, a well-known American luxury department store announced that they will be testing plus-size sections in five select outlet stores called Last Call beginning Feb. 18. Depending on the success of the plus size sales, Neiman Marcus may add these plus size sections to other Last Call stores as soon as fall.

Neiman Marcus has sold plus size clothing online for over two years, but has never stocked their physical stores with the extended size merchandise. They’re hoping the addition to physical stores will bring in more customers.

Now here’s something fun: ASOS, a UK-based fashion and beauty retailer just unrolled a new plus size section… for men!

Okay, it’s been about two months since the release, but people are still just now hearing about it!

According to Buzzfeed, ASOS has been offering their plus size line for women, ASOS Curve, for over seven years. This is the first time they have done a plus size line for men. The line includes sizes 1X-4X and features some casual-cool pieces for every kind of guy.

With the rise of plus size models and acceptance, we mustn’t forget our cool guy friends who also struggle to fit into their jeans. 2017 is off to a great start in terms of fashion equality. Let’s see what other boundaries we can break this year.
