“I Am the Way”

If you’ve ever seen the Wizard of Oz, you know exactly what the Yellow Brick Road is. It’s the sure way that leads you to the wizard! All you have to do is follow that road and you’ll make it to your destination. It seems easy enough, but Dorothy and her friends discovered that following the Yellow Brick Road was not as easy as it sounded, and they had difficulty reaching the Wizard.

Wizards and tin men aside, this relates very closely to us in our lives, finding the way back to our Father in Heaven. Trying to get back to Heaven without a road map is… well, impossible.

In the New Testament, days before Jesus Christ is crucified, he talks with his disciples to prepare them for his death. He tells them many things to help prepare them, but I want to focus on this one scripture. This scripture is a very basic road map.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

This simple sentence carries significant meaning and guidance, not only for his disciples at the time, but for all of us for the rest of our lives. Our goal for our lives is to return to our Father in Heaven. The only way that we can do that is through Christ. We have so much incredible material on Christ’s teachings at our fingertips that we can use to grow closer to our Savior and closer to God.

Following Christ is our “Yellow Brick Road”, if you will. It’s a simple instruction, but we won’t know what lies ahead until we get there. Life likes to throw us curve balls and sometimes we may end up off the path for a while, but there is always a way back through Christ. He is ready to help us. All we have to do is reach out to him and he will help us return to God.
